Just recently, I discovered a very cool application for my Nokia N8 called Molome. Its like an Instagram for the iPod. You can easily upload your photos directly to your Molo.me account or Facebook and Twitter. I really had fun using this application and I think I'm addicted to it now. Its one of my favorite camera tool next to Joyeye, another lomography application for my Symbian phone.

Ulan-ulan Falls of Almeria, Biliran Province

I never really thought of posting this picture here before but when I saw that it was actually nice and good looking, I decided to blog about it. This was my first time visiting this tremendous falls in Almeria, Biliran Province. Going to the place is not an easy task, you'll have to pass through some steepy cliff. There is actually four waterfalls on this side of Biliran. You can pass through them one by one until you reach the fourth waterfalls called "Kinaraha". First waterfalls is Sampaw if I'm not mistaken next is the Ulan-ulan and then Recoletos then lastly the Kinaraha Falls. We went there last May 2010 when some Cebuano friends of my cousin had a vacation at Naval. The Sampaw falls is not very accessible though you can see it while walking going to Ulan-ulan. Kinaraha is a bit far and locals said its a bit dangerous going there. So our party decided to just stay at Ulan-ulan then visit Recoletos.

In Recoletos, you can be like Tarzan because there's this rope hanging from a tree that you can ride on then jump off on the water. You can also go near its top and jump from there. Me and my cousins had a great time and enjoyed the beautiful scenery of Biliran's waterfalls. I'm pretty sure our visitor enjoyed their visit too.

My New Toy, the Nokia N8

Ever since my Nokia N82 died, I have been wondering what phone to use next as a backup camera from my Lumix and then, Nokia N8 was born. It was publicly announced last October 2010 but was able to own it only this November 2011. That was after year, it was because of my very busy schedule that I wasn't able to buy this phone immediately also, I haven't saved a lot of money to buy this last year. Right now, I am announcing this because I want you all to expect that some of my new shots here at Ang Maniniyot are from my Nokia N8 phone. Wiwo! ☺

This afternoon, I had a chit-chat with my classmate about how’s life going on. We were talking about personal experiences and stuff and one topic that brought into us is about the places I’ve been through. I told her that I was raised in Davao City and transferred to Manila to help my parents on their small business. I enjoyed living in Manila because everything there is a challenge. When my parent’s small business went bankrupt, I decided to work at an advertising firm. It’s more of a nocturnal shift so I’ll have to sleep during daytime and will have to wake up at night. Geez! That’s an abnormal life. I am on that way of life for more than 2 years until I got tired with it. So I decided to resign from my post and work somewhere else. Now, I’m here at Naval, Biliran, at my Father’s province and currently doing something that I really like (something I can’t disclose online). I found it very easy to adjust here compared to Manila. People here are very hospitable and very friendly.

Anyway, I am creating this post because there are times that I’m missing Manila sometimes. I never came back there since last year. There are times that I miss the MRT, the busy traffic, the people walking waiting for a jeepney ride at Aurora Boulevard and of course the food there. I can’t find Yellow Cab here or Krisypy Kreme, not even Max’s or Wendy’s or Burger King. I’ll have to travel to Cebu just to ease this salivating mouth. Camouflaging after crossing a river

Yesterday, I had a chance of watching police trainees of Region 8 in action doing their quasi-tactical operations inside the PPSC-RTS 8 camp at San Jose, Tacloban City. There are different stations that the trainees will have to pass through like the rope course, ambush and the night navigation. Its very awesome how this young men and women were able survived the hardships and all the challenges just to become a public servant.

When I was watching them, I realized that police officers are not really as bad as what people believe. They have been very accommodating and very patient to the people watching them. Though there have been a lot of anomalies that involved policemen but let us not forget that they are the people that we call when there are criminal activities happening in our area. They are the one who protects us from evil minds at night when we are asleep.

I was always interested about it but didn’t have enough time to take a picture of it. Not until today that I have a fever. How to be a Wedding Photographer?

Being a wedding photographer is one of my goals in the Photography field. I would love to shoot pre-nuptial and of course, the wedding proper. Hitting that goal is a long way to run and I think that it’s too early for me to become a wedding photographer. I believe I still lack some photographic talents that I’ll have to learn. Anyway, just this morning, somebody asked me if I can be the official photographer of her daughter’s wedding. I paused because I was shocked. I didn’t know how to answer that One Million Peso Jackpot Question. I just told her that I’ll have to think about it first. I don’t have enough resources to shoot a wedding but I do really love to do it. Tsk. Maybe in a few years, I’ll be shooting a wedding but if it’s gonna be now, I don’t think so.

The Rock Formation at the Higatangan Island

I arrived early in the morning at Naval from Cebu when I heard that my Uncle and his basketball team will be going to Higatangan Island. Higatangan Island is one of the tourist destinations in the province of Biliran. It is located in Naval Municipality. Higatangan Island boasts the finest white sand in the province. Since I haven’t visited the island, I decided to go with my Uncle. It was fun during the first time. We arrived at the island noon time and ate our packed foods. We chose to stay at the back part of the island because it is a bit “virgin” yet to tourists. Only locals know this part of the island. Another part of the island that I liked so much is the Shifting Sandbar. I’ll be posting some picture of it some other time because I don’t have a photo of it yet. My camera went lowbat when we arrived there.

Update (05012011): As promised, I'll be posting a picture of the Shifting Sandbar. Last week, my family and I went to the Island to spend the the last days of Holy Week there. For the Shifting Sandbar, you can't expect too much from it because when we went there, its high tide so we weren't able to enjoy the Sandbar that much. All this time I have never been very lucky in joining a contest. Whether it’s a raffle contest or any other kind of contest. The only contest I won was the Schützen® Notebook from Batang Yagit’s contest almost a year ago. Right now, I’m trying my luck in joining a Photo Contest sponsored by the National Geographic Channel Asia. It’s a photo contest about “Migration”. Bagasumbol Festival

The fiesta at Naval was an enormous event with lots of events and presentations. Of course, it won't be possible with the help of the local Government of Naval and the Naval Festival 2010 Execom. The highlight of the festival includes parades, band presentations of different schools of Naval, the Matron Queen of Naval, Bagasumbol Festival, Tsinelas Party and so much more.

Since I arrived late at the Festival, I never had a chance of taking pictures of some of the events in the Festival. Last Saturday, I had a chance of having photoshoot at the Bagasumbol Festival. Bagasumbol Festival is one of the highlights of the fiesta in Naval. Bagasumbol is the commemorating of how Biliranons defend the island during the colonization of the Moros. A mini-Photowalk at Tacloban City

I just had a mini-photowalk this afternoon at Tacloban City. I have been here in Tacloban for almost a month now and have been planning of doing a photowalk since then. It’s just that I didn’t have any chance of doing it because of my hectic schedule. This photowalk was not in the game plan today but my scheduled appointment was cancelled so I decided to go for a photowalk. Too bad it wasn’t fun doing it the first time because of the heavy rain that poured out the whole city. I think there’s gonna be a part 2 for this one because I know there’s a lot to shoot in the City. It’s so nice having a photowalk in Tacloban because the people are not over “usisero”. What I like most in the city is that people are obeying traffic rules. Since they don’t have foot-bridge yet, people are crossing the streets in the pedestrian lane. I was on my way to the Capitol when the rain started so I stopped by somewhere so that my camera won’t get any drops of rain water. I was waiting for over an hour and still the rain never stopped so I decided to just go back home and have a 2^nd photowalk next time. So for now, these are the shots that I took on the busy streets of Tacloban City.

Playing With Lights At Naval

I was busy watching TV one evening at Naval when the electricity went off. Another night of boring brown out. I was all alone at our old house so I decided to just go out and check if there are common friends outside. I was watching all the vehicles lighting up the street and that's when I realize to play with the vehicle lights that night. Took my camera and the tripod my sister lend me and went to our terrace and try to check a perfect spot for my subject. I've seen a lot of photos before about streets with lights flashing on it from the vehicles passing. I was so amazed about it so I decided to create my own version of this shot. After making sure that my camera is safe from falling to the ground, I then set the camera's aperture and shutter speed. I am a very big fan of "Auto Mode" in my camera but there are times that I use "Manual Mode" in photo shoot. I set the camera to f6 / 60sec. and then waited. After a few tries, I have now my finished product.

While I was walking on the streets of Cebu, I stumbled upon this street food along I don't know street. Its somewhere in Colon anyway. I saw a man eating something on a stick and the other guy on a plastic cellophane. I was really curious about the food they eat so I decided to check it out. I haven't such street food back in Manila and Davao so I think its Cebu's original. They call it "kaang" and this shells are being hauled from Bohol to Cebu. Big sized shell will cost you P15 and then smaller for P10 and those on the sticks are P5/sticks. I tried them all and was satisfied about it. Well, its hard to eat it because it has some sandy part that you will have to remove first before you enjoy this God's gift. Two thumbs up for this one.

When I went back to Naval, Biliran last week, I've come up of this idea of doing a project in photography. I have a friend who has a Project 365 where his plan is to post a picture every day in a single year. Since I could not commit to take pictures everyday and post it in my blog or in my Facebook account, I planned a different project and I call it, The Heart Project. I know its too cheesy and corny but I think with this project, I can enhance my creativity and the way I see things. Actually, I already have shots taken somewhere in Naval and in places I've visited. So, in my later posts in this blog, I'll be posting them one by one and I hope I'll get a good feedback from the people who visit my blog.

HDR Photo Using Dave Hill Effect

HDR is one of the coolest arts in Photography. I have posted HDR photos before but not really satisfied with the results but was just trying to show you all my work. Anyway, when it comes to HDR, Dave Hill is the name. He’s been doing well in HDR and still creating great results in his post processing technique. I tried Googling some articles and tutorials about the Dave Hill effect and learned a few tricks on how to do it in Lightroom. So, for those who are trying to develop their HDR using Lightroom, here are the settings I found that can make your HDR a Dave Hill Effect type.

* Recovery = 100

* Contrast = 100

* Clarity = 100

* Vibrance = 100

* Saturation = -75

Four fishes for dinner

Poverty is one of the great problems our country needs to overcome. In Biliran province alone, major population is in the poverty level. I have an Aunt who's a nutritionist in Region 8 and said that Biliran Province is at the top 5 that has the most number of malnourished children.

When I had a week vacation in Naval, I went to Red Stone Ville to have some lunch. It’s almost Sunset when I saw some kids fishing on the stony part of the sea shore. I approach them and asked if how was the catch. They said that they were already there since 10AM and hasn’t caught any promising fish for their meal. They only got few small fishes probably not enough for most of us but enough to complete their meal for the day. While talking to them, I never thought that they would be very enthusiastic in sharing their stories to me. One kid told me that this day is not a very lucky day for them but still they will strive for more catch.

Life is really hard for them and but still they are eager and willing to survive. At a young age, they already started to work for their food. One good thing is that they don’t lose hope and they have the courage to stand in their own feet.

Naval Central Elementary School Celebrating Buwan ng Wika

Buwan ng Wika was celebrated by the students of Naval Central Elementary School last Friday, August 27, 2010. My cousin is a student from that institution and is in Grade 3 now. She and her classmates will be dancing a Batangueño Cultural Dance that afternoon. Prior to the program, I took a chance of taking pictures of the kids at the school. Some are wearing tribal costumes like that in Ifugao. That afternoon was full of fun for the kids who's celebrating the Buwan ng Wika. Some groups are dancing, there are kids modeling the different costumes of localities in the Philippines and some are singing Original Pinoy Music (OPM). Almost all of the kids there are in their colorful costumes and I thought that it might be a great chance for me to practice capturing pictures of people. The picture on the left is a photo of two kids trying to fix their Barong Tagalog, the National Dress of the Philippines for men. The picture below is my cousin performing her dance moves on stage partnered by my other cousin.

New Maniniyot Face! New Banner!

I just got a new banner for my Ang Maniniyot blog. I really wanted a real banner since the day this blog was born but wasn’t able to create one because I don’t do well in Photoshop. Until I met a friend •Gboy•, a fellow Bisdak in Symbianize, who’s willing to help people who are in need of Forum signatures or website banners. I asked him to create a website banner for me and gave him the specifications of a banner that I want and after a few minutes, everything is all set. My banner is already done after a few edits in Photoshop. I tried the banner in my blog and checked if everything seems fine and I think it’s cool. I just got a problem with this new banner because when I checked Mozilla Firefox, the border shows up and also in Internet Explorer but in Google Chrome, everything seems fine. I tried to check for the CSS Code but to no avail, I could not find it. I just hope somebody can be able to help me out fix this one for me. Anyway, I just want to thank •Gboy• for making this blog more presentable.

So I was like really frustrated of getting a quality shot but no sun really showed up. So I just took this photo and voila! Once Upon A Time

Aight, so let me tell you all something about my blog. I started this Photoblog October of 2008. Before “Ang Maniniyot”, there was “The Maniniyot” blog. The old blog is still active actually because I didn’t delete the account yet but I am actually planning to do so. I don’t really know what got me into this idea of creating a whole new Photoblog but I just did it in an instant. What happened actually was that I was trying to change the template of “The Maniniyot” blog to something else but was really tired of editing the HTML codes so my brilliant mind told me to just create a whole new Photoblog and now we have, “Ang Maniniyot”. Nothing has changed actually; some of the contents in this blog came from my old Photoblog. Maybe the major changes are the Photoblog Name and the template. So now, what I’m planning to do is to disable the “The Maniniyot” blog or put a javascript code that will redirect that blog to “Ang Maniniyot”.

P.S. Thanks for reading, I just don't really know what to write but I do really have this urge to write at this very moment. ☺

HDR Photos: Boat Set

I was scanning the photos of my Facebook accounts when I saw my HDR (high dynamic range) dedicated folder. I then realized that this photos hasn't been posted here in my blog so right now, I am telling you all what's the story behind this photos. I was first amazed by a friend in creating HDR photos. I really liked the outcome when you're processing an HDR. I thought of learning the trick and asked some friends online on how to create a wonderful HDR picture. In this sets of photos here, I know there's a very high demand of improvements. I'll have to practice more in creating HDR pictures. I don't really know why I like taking pictures of a boat but I just like it. There's something in the boat that can really get my attention so I'm sharing you all this boat shots in HDR.

I already seen this baby for how many times during the wake of my Lola but just I only had a single moment to take a picture of her. Tanauan, Leyte Church

Last weekend, I was at Tanauan, Leyte to visit the wake of one of my relatives there. On the burial day, we went to the church of Tanauan for the blessing of her body. I went inside the church and sat for awhile until I noticed that the church is old. The details are just like the other old churches that I've seen in Bohol and in Cebu. I never thought that there are old churches made by Spaniards in Leyte too.I went outside the church to check if it has the Philippine Historical Committee sign outside and yes, I ain't no wrong because it does have the information of the church by the Philippine Historical Committee. Actually, you won't notice that its old because the front side is newly painted but if you're gonna check the sides, you'll definitely notice that the church is made up of stones, usually stones from the sea. I then took some photo of the church and asked my Uncle about some information about the church. My Uncle told me that this church is mysterious. There was a priest who took his life at the back of the church, at the convent. I had no chance of getting there at the convent since the gate is locked. My Uncle also told me that the near the church has ghosts roaming around.

The church was made in 1769 and was renovated in 1850. Just check on the photos of the church below.

Pardo Church

I have not gotten any enough information about this church at Pardo except that it is located in Pardo, Cebu City. This church was built around 1860's if I'm not mistaken. I'm really sorry if I am not able to provide you good details about this church because this picture was actually forgotten in my memory card. I was reminded that I still have this picture when I was browsing my camera early this morning. I forgot almost everything about this church. Anyway, this church has been featured at Leylander's blog post "Southern Exposure". If I'd be given a chance to come back to Cebu, I'll visit this place again and gather some facts about it.

Visit to Taboan, Cebu. The Dried Fish Market

Me and Nanay was asked by Tatay to visit Taboan. Taboan as known for dried fish. A famous place to buy "danggit" for pasalubong. Well, we went there because Tatay will be having a trip to Manila tomorrow and he wants to bring dried fish to his colleagues. I never thought that this items are being sold for about Php400-Php500/kilo. A bit expensive but I think its "sulit" because of the fact that its one of Cebu's specialty. I just thought that maybe this food are being sold twice the price in different places. But one thing is for sure, I am drooling for this one. This one is my favorite meal during breakfast. So, to stop my mouth from watering, I asked my Nanay to give me 1/4 kilo of the "danggit" she bought.

Taoist Temple Cebu City

People who visit Cebu do always take time to visit the Philippine Taoist Temple. Taoist Temple is one of the landmark that Cebu is boasting to its visitor. Its a place where you can just sit and relax and enjoy the panoramic view of Cebu City. Yesterday isn't my first visit to the temple. I already visited the place maybe 2004 or 2005 together with my SK family in our barangay in Davao City. When I went to the place, I thought there's no other visitor around and that made me think that I can shoot well since there's no people walking around. Before entering in, the guard told me that taking pictures of the saints inside the temple is strictly prohibited. The stairs caused me muscle pain but ignored it when I reached the top. Then I realize, we didn't pas through this stairs before, we were on the other side where you can see a replica of the Great Wall of China. Well, I continued walking inside the temple when I saw bunch of Koreans and other nationalities inside it. The place was like swarmed by tourist from all over the world. Stayed in low profile while taking pictures. The place is very well maintained except to some part of it. There are statue of dragons and lions in every corner of the place. Chinese are really mysterious based on their belief and culture. But that's the reason why every nationallity is different, because of their belief and culture. Rosary in a Low Light Condition

This rosary shot was actually taken last night when I was taking a break after dinner. I just saw this rosary from my mother's cabinet and tried to take a snap of it in a low light condition. I used a flash light to put a small amount of light on it. Well, flashlight on my left hand and the camera on the right hand, I really had a hard time taking this snapshot. No post processing being done in this picture.

Tacloban Festival

During our last day in Tacloban, we were caught in the middle of a fiesta celebration. I think its a Sto. Nino Fiesta in Tacloban that they celebrate during the 29th day of June. Our scheduled trip to Naval, Biliran is at 12:30p.m. and we woke up early because my parents will have to go to church and I was left in the hotel room to watch over my brother. When my parents came back from the church, I went out and watched the parade being held on the streets of Tacloban. It was a very colorful fiesta celebration. Participants are dressed in different tribal costumes with complete props. I managed to take some shots of the parade. Taking pictures during this kind of event is one my dream. I really like this kind of scenario because you're not gonna have any problem with light conditions and also, colorful costumes will give your image a very fantastic mood. I can say it is a bit hard when you're gonna take pictures of marching people because everybody is moving. Sometimes you're lucky if the presentor will stop in front of you to pose but it rarely happens. When I started taking pictures I noticed that there are a lot of armed photographers waiting in line too. All of them are equipped with high end lenses and other accessories. I was a bit shy because I was only using a "hybrid" camera, not even close to a dSLR. Well anyway, I didn't really care about it because all I was thinking is to shoot and shoot the parade's participants. It was really fun taking pictures under the heat of the sun, I felt like I'm a pro too! Lol. Anyway, just take a look at some of my shots below.

This morning, my father and I went to Gaisano Country Mall here in Cebu and I was looking at the Coming Soon movies and I was a bit curious about the movie they've posted "The Social Network". I thought it was some kind of a thriller film about people being stalked and killed by stranger online. Just recently, I was blog hopping and saw someone posting about the said movie. I was reading his blog post and there I knew that the movie I saw in the "Coming Soon" on the mall was all about how Mark Zuckerberg founded the social networking site, Facebook. It was mentioned that Justin Timberlake will be in the movie too but not to play as Mark Zuckerberg. It will be at the big screen on October 1, 2010. Just check out the trailer below.

HDR First Try

I'm really curious on how do people create a very wonderful image like HDR. I've seen photos and was really jealous on the way they post process the pictures. One of the thread created in Symbianize is all about photography. Forum members share their tips and tricks on photography and also showcase their wonderful images. A member posted some HDR photos on there and I asked some advise from him. He gave me StuckInCustoms tutorial about HDR. At first I thought HDR is very complicated but he proved me wrong. HDR is simple. You can create an HDR image in a few minutes as long as you have all the tools and of course, the patience and effort. I tried creating an HDR of my own and felt satisfied about my final images. I know I'm still not good at it but I also know that practice will make me good in creating an HDR image. That photo on the left is my very first HDR photo. Comments and suggestions are highly appreciated. Thanks!

A Father's Day Special Post

I really had a hard time taking pictures of a bird and when I was at Dauis Church in Bohol, I saw birds coming in and out of the cottage where we we taking a rest. I took the chance of taking a snapshot of this birds and I think this one here is the most clear and steady one.

Bohol and Siquijor Trip

I just got a few shots in Bohol and Siquijor because I don't have enough time. The boat docked at Bohol port and stayed there for only 4 hours and then we reached Siquijor 11pm. When we were at Bohol, I decided to step off the boat and go to the nearest vintage church that I know, Dauis Church. Inside the church is a fresh water well though the church is residing at the shoreline of Panglao Island. Stayed there for an hour maybe and then went back to the boat. The boat undocked Bohol Port and reached Siquijor late evening that Saturday. The next morning, the rain poured out the town of Larena so there's no chance for me to get out of our room and visit some places. After the rain, I went outside and visited some places in Larena, Siquijor. Here are some of the shots I took in BOhol and Siquijor.

I've never been to an event like this before. Meeting new people is not my type of game. I am not good in socializing but with this kind of event, I think I'm gonna have to forget all those negative traits and be confident to join this event. Cebu City Cathedral

After the Sto. Niño tour, I went to the nearby church which is the Cebu City Cathedral Church (I forgot its real name, I'm sorry). Anyway, I was really happy when I got there because everything seems to be perfect. The sky is very friendly and the lights of the church are very dramatic. Really had fun taking pictures of the church. Because of its beauty, people are starting to make it a park and at the same time, a lover's lane. Tsk tsk. Them guys should show respect to the place.

It was during the election campaign period when I volunteered myself as the photographer of my Aunt's candidacy. We went to this far far away barrio to do the daily chores of a candidate, the house to house. What they do is they go to every single houses in the barrio and introduce themselves to let the people know that they are running for this certain position. While we were having a rest, I saw this line of trees in front of me and it looks like they are so even. You can actually pass through in the middle of this trees. I like the setup and I like to take a shot. So here it is!

I want a Raynox Lens

Lens is one of the most essential part of a camera. With my FZ30, it does have a 35-420mm, and it works perfectly fine with me. I can be able to take pictures in my satisfaction. But there's a "but", sometimes, I can't take pictures that are out of range. Pictures that are too far are not so clear anymore. So I thought I'll have to buy a lens for my camera. The FZ30 is not an SLR. The lens is fixed and built in so its really hard for me to find a lens. Good thing is when I googled a lens for my camera, I found the Raynox lens that are specially built for my camera model. I checked their website and it has a macro lens, telephoto and a wide angle lens available for my camera. There's a Singaporean website selling Raynox lenses and I inquired about it. The macro lens is about Sing$100 something or 3,300Php and the telephoto for about Sing$390 or 12,700Php. Both are expensive for me now since I already resigned from my job but I'll have to save money for this lenses. I badly need those lenses specially the telephoto. For now, I can't buy those lenses yet but soon enough, I'm sure I'll be owning those lenses.

Last night I stumbled upon this blog dedicated to Cebu City named Cebu City Photos. I was checking some of his photos and it was cool. I'm here in Cebu for more than 2 weeks now and I'm still on the process of familiarizing the places here. The blog has been a very big help to me specialy in discovering new and exciting places here in Cebu. I saw one of his post about the Fort San Pedro here in Cebu and I was excited about it. When it comes to historical places here in the Philippines, I'm always go with it. So I decided to go to the place and try to check everything about it. When I got there, I immediately went inside but the problem is theres's a wedding reception being held inside. I went back outside and try to observe the people coming in and out. While waiting outside, I was talking to an old man outside selling key chains and offering paid photographs to the tourists. If I'm not mistaken, his name is Mang Victor. Mang Victor has been working in the area for about 15 years now. Mang Victor told me that it is OK to get inside the Fort. I went inside the Fort and asked the receptionist and she let me in but will have to pay 30Php for the entrance fee. The lower ground has been restricted because of the wedding reception and the only place allowed to the tourists are the upper level. It was really nice inside. I tried thinking the history of the place and realized that life before is very simple. People doesn't have cellphones, camera, laptops, electricity and other basic needs that the new civilization is enjoying. I think I can't live their life. I'm so used to the modern world. I had a great experience inside the Fort San Pedro and will discover more exciting places here in Cebu. Next stop? Taoist Temple!

Creating a collage in Picasa 3

Creating a collage is not too easy for me before. I really had a problem creating a collage. I'm using Picasa that has a built in collage maker but the problem is that I can't figure out how to fix the alignments of the pictures. I was browsing online when I stumbled upon the Funtography blog teaching how to create a collage in Picasa 3. I checked on it and I felt like I'm so dumb because creating a collage in Picasa was too easy that even an elementary student can do it. Good thing I was patient of reading her blog and following the instructions until I was able to create my first collage. I was planning to make the background color as black but I noticed that my Half Moon Shot has a black background. So I decided to change the color into something else and here's the result. I hope you guys like my simple collage. I'll continue creating more of collage and I think creating a collage of the set of photos you have can be an elegant way of showcasing your photos into a single post than putting multiple images in a post.

The Real Itchyworm

This shot was taken when I was still at Talustusan, Naval Biliran Province. It was noon time when I decided to go outside and enjoy the fresh air in our backyard. There's this bamboo bed under a tree which is good for relaxation. I brought my camera when I went there. I was sitting on that bed for almost an hour until I saw something crawling on the side bars of the bed. It was a worm and not just an ordinary worm, its an itchyworm. I don't know what's the name of this worm but yeah, this worm's gonna make you itch to death. If you happen to touch the worm then you're dead. Its really itchy and the itch won't be gone easily. The bad thing is its not only one, there's a lot of them. Its like their whole population is swarming the tree and the bamboo bed. It is indeed a beautiful worm but its too dangerous. What I did is I just took a picture of it and leave the tree and promised not to go back to that tree again. I asked my cousin to burn some leaves below the tree to let this worm leave. I'll be back in Talustusan soon and I hope this worms won't be there again. I hate them.

Scratch Machine

A while ago, my mother asked me if she can play a game on my laptop for the reason that she can't sleep without playing. I gave her the laptop and I got bored waiting for her to finish playing those crazy plants throwing beans to zombies. While waiting, I grabbed my camera and took some shots inside the room. I saw this scratching device of my father lying on the table so I decided to make it my subject for the day. I know I'm not really good in setting the correct angle but I think this one has been positioned properly. Tomorrow will be a brand new day and I still don't know what to shoot. I'm planning to go outside and go to I.T. Park and see what's the next subject there.

Dead Trees

I got bored in our farm so I decided to go outside and see if there's something interesting outside. While walking in the backyard, I saw this two dead trees that still standing. Global warming might have caused this trees to die. Too bad. I took a shot of it and the result was good. I know its so simple. I'm still a noob in the photography field. I'm not good in angling. Not good in checkig the light conditions. All that I do is to shoot and shoot until I learn some new tricks. I like the simplicity of this shot and I hope ya'll like it too.

My Mothey kept on bragging about this beautiful scenery in our new farm in Naval, Biliran Province. She kept telling me about the view, the air and the sunset. Due to my curiousity, I waited for the sunset there to capture it and tell the world how beautiful it is based on my Mother's opinion. I waited from 4:00pm until the sunset showed up. At first, I was really disappointed because it was a bit cloudy but when 5:30pm came, the sun was so clear and so bright. It took me how many shot to capture it corretly. Tried serveral settings on the focal length and the shutter. I think this one is the best for me. I like it very much. The sun is hiding now at the back of the Higatangan Island. It is very beautiful. This is my first sunset shot with my FZ30. I hope ya'll like it.

Half Moon

Last weekend, I was asked by my father to go to Naval, Biliran and deliver my uncle's supply of paper in his business. I took the boat going to Naval and just like the old days, its always night time when taking the boat. I was in the middle of my "siesta" when suddenly, I woke up because of waves banging our Ro-Ro. It wasn't really fun at all. Anyway, I saw this half moon watching at us so I immediately took my camera and take a couple of shots. Its hard to take a picture of it because the boat is shaking. Anyway, its one good experience.

Magellan's Cross

This is one of the famous landmark in Cebu City. The Magellan's Cross is located at the back of Sto. Nino Cathedral and at the front of the Cebu City Hall. I went there alone and was guided by my navigator. Good thing my phone's navigator is very accurate. Nothing's different in the cross today and the cross on the first time I visited it because we were told before that this cross grows taller and taller each year but I think its just an urban legend. I had a hard time taking this picture because there's a lot of tourist during my visit. Devotee around the area are selling candles for you to pray to the cross.

Mactan Bridge I

I have a friend from Davao who is currently working here in Cebu. We met once because I'd like to show him my new toy and also, to ask some advice from him about the basics of photography. His name is Raymund or others call him Bon, owner of RabPhotography. Raymund is a good friend of mine way back in Davao and he taught me a lot of things when it comes to computer, photography and other stuff. I asked him once if where are the good spots here in Cebu to take pictures, he advised me to try the Mactan Bridge. I went to Mactan Bridge and took some shots of it. The image above has been cropped to remove some unnecessary objects in the picture. This is the Mactan Bridge I and I never thought that Mactan Bridge II is way better than the I. Mactan Bridge II has a park beside it when I cross it on my way to Naval. Well, next time I'll try to go there and take some shot of the Mactan Bridge II.

This street lamp was taken at the back of Mall Of Asia. It was one tiring afternoon when I decided to go to MOA to unwind. I went there all by myself and carried my phone with me, as always. The thing that I like the most in MOA is the view at the back. There's like a park and playgrounds for kids. During night time, bars are starting to cater people. I took this shot somewhere inside the Mall of Asia. I was with my cousin coz I accompanied here because she's buying some stuff for her vacation in Manila. We pass through this flower shop at the ground floor of MOA and I was looking at it to check if there's something that I could buy for my girlfriend. The flowers are beautiful and lovely. I took pictures of it and this one is my favorite. I liked it so much because of its color. I like the color white. Most of my shirts are white. Aside from the color, I also like the flower itself. My cousin said that its a lily. I don't know if it is indeed from a lily. I don't care, I just like it.

Mirrored vase

I was applying for a job last year and while waiting at the recruitment area, I saw this flower base sitting at the top of a glass table. The vase's reflection at the table was so clear so I decided to take a snap of it using my phone. When I checked the result, it was so cool because the glass seems to be disappearing. I just hope they won't sue me for taking picture inside their lobby. If they do, I don't know what to do! Haha. Anyway, back in the picture, I know the color is dull but I simply like it. I am also practicing the Rule of Thirds here and I hope I made it right. The noise are again visible but I think that's the disadvantage of using a mobile phone. I still need to practice more and learn a lot in the Photography field.

Hotel Lamp

After we our visit to Divisoria, me and my cousin went to the hotel where she and her mom is checked in. I still have a shift that night so I decided to just take a nap at the hotel. I don't have any problems with the clothes because I bought a shirt from Divisoria because I wasn't really planning to go home that day. Inside the hotel room was this lamp. The lamp was so simple but illegant. I don't really know how to take a picture of it until I come up of an idea of taking just the hole of the lamp. I liked the result and I was happy with it. My friends can't really figure out where I took this image. I hope ya'll like this simple shot by me.

Divisoria Today

Divisoria is one of the famous places in Manila. It is one of the busiest commercial area in the Metro. People goes to Divisoria because they are selling cheap items compared to those items you see in the mall. Of course, the problem is that all the items being sold here are immitations. The quality that you get is equal to the amount that you paid for an item that you buy. Divisoria is also known to be the den of thieves. This is one major problem when you shop at Divisoria. You will have to take care of your belongings because even earrings are being grabbed in your ears. I think the Government of Manila must do something about it. They should double the security in Divisoria because people continue to patronize the products sold here. The more people visit Divisoria, the more thieves will be present in the area.

Before, when I first visit divisoria, the place was so crowded the it is really hard for you to walk in the middle of the street or even at the sidewalk. The stalls are being placed in the middle of the streets that's why when I visit it again with my cousin last month, there was really a big difference. The jeepneys can pass through the C.M. Recto street now and stalls are being placed on the sidewalk. The place is not too crowded anymore but I think it is only seasonal. It is more busier during Christmas Season and during School Season.

Why Maniniyot? What is Maniniyot?

I was asked by one of my friend if why did I use the word Maniniyot as a blog title. I told her that I don't see any problem in using the word Maniniyot as a blog title. To those who doesn't know what Maniniyot means is, its the Bisaya word for Photographer. Bisaya is one of the widely used dialect in the Philippines. I know it sounds funny and sounds obscene but I think that's just the way it is. I like the word itself. At first you wouldn't think that its a PhotoBlog and I like my blog to be that way. Me and my cousin paid visit to one of our Aunt in Rizal Province one day. My Aunt ask us if we would want to go visit the National Museum. Due to curiosity, I agreed to the plan and we went there one sunny afternoon. After the tour at the Museum, we went to the nearby park, the Luneta Park. At first, it wasn't really a good idea for me since I don't really like going there. But for the sake of not spoiling the day, I oblige to my Aunt's decision to go there. Well, it wasn't really bad at all. You see people having picnics and kids playing. Some are flying kites and tourists are taking pictures here and there. I took this photo at the right corner of the park. We were standing there because it started raining. From a sunny afternoon to a rainy afternoon, the weather shifted so fast. I had a great time with my family though. That's the sense of going to the Luneta Park, spending a quality time with your family.

Boat Ride at La Mesa EcoPark

Last year, when I was still working at a call center in Makati, I had a friend who happens to be a music player too. Until we discovered that some of our team mates plays musical instruments too. We had a retro party at the office and we were ask to play there. We played old school music with all the costumes. Since both of my team mates are better than me when it comes to guitar, I played the beat box during the entire performance. After we played at the office, we were ask by one of our friend's friend to play at their wedding reception. It was really fast and we don't have enough time to practice. The wedding reception was held at the La Mesa EcoPark. While waiting for the wedding to finish, we decided to roam around and see what is up with La Mesa EcoPark. While exploring the whole park, we saw this boat rides and I got attracted to the boats that are parked at the side of the lagoon. Its just a simple shot. The original photo was actually a panorama of the lagoon but I decided to crop it and only show this parked boats.

Tinago Falls

This is the Tinago Falls of Naval, Biliran province. I went to Naval 2 years ago to attend my cousin's debut party. After the debut party, I decided to stay there for how a month or so. Since its summer, me and my cousins were able to spend quality time together. One day, we planned of going cross country to go to Tinago Falls. At first I thought its near the town proper of Naval but when we were travelling, its like we arrived at the venue after 2 hours. Maybe the rough road caused it. Naval, Biliran province is considered an undiscovered paradise. It has a lot of beautiful beaches and also waterfalls. I've seen Rice Terraces for the first time that I thought I can only see in Benguet Province. Biliran is really rich in natural resources and I hope people would take good care of it. I think Biliran province can compete to Iligan's falls because Biliran does have a lot of waterfalls available for the tourist. My only wish is that Naval will be developed soon by the Government.

Gate Lamp

This gate lamp was taken from my Aunt's house in Rizal Province. I never really had any idea how to capture it in its correct angle. But yet again, I got this result and I think this one is beautiful. Maybe my amazement to lights indulge me in taking this picture.

Hi, my name is Boffill Bernardes, owner of http://www.boffillbernardes.com/ and the http://angmaniniyot.blogspot.com/ blog. That's me in the corner! I created this blog because I have a passion in art. I think it does really run in the blood. Anyway, regarding this blog, I just want to set your expectation that I am not a professional photographer and I'm still on the process of learning it. I have just created this blog to showcase my talent though I know I'm not really good at it. Also, I don't own an SLR camera. I'm only using my camera phone N82 and a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ30. I promise that I will keep this blog updated in the best way that I can. I travel a lot before but unfortunately, I don't have a camera during those days. That's too bad for me but this time, I will always make sure that I can be able to take picture almost everyday. I have friends who wants my pictures to be in their projects like a book cover or a video proposal and they ask me if I would allow them to use my pictures. Of course I do allow them as long as they would give credit to me.
